Note: sodium hydroxide is an extremely strong and irritating substance. Keep the highest precautions and safety when using sodium hydroxide. Protect your eyes (using glasses), and the skin of the whole body, put on thick, strong gloves on your hands. The direct contact of sodium hydroxide with the skin and eyes must be avoided. It is essential to keep sodium hydroxide away from children. Work with the use of hydroxide should be carried out in a ventilated area, preferably with the use of so-called ventilation exhaust.

Sodium hydroxide is an inorganic chemical compound. In the solid form it has the form of white flakes. Reacts with water - dissolving and forming a base, which is one of the strongest alkaline principles with caustic properties (so-called soda lye). Soda lye causes burns on the skin. Solid form also acts irritating and burning on the whole body, including: eyes, respiratory tract, skin.

Sodium hydroxide has strong hygroscopic properties, i.e. absorbs moisture from the air. Store in sealed containers.

In the presence of moisture, it has a corrosive effect on metals.

Application of sodium hydroxide (among others):

unclogging sewer pipes;

production of soap.

When draining sewer pipes, pour 1 to 2 teaspoons into the sewer pipe and leave for about 30 minutes. After this time, rinse the pipe with a strong jet of water. It is not advisable to pour more hydroxide, because the pipe can be blocked completely.

Sodium hydroxide degreases, removes organic impurities such as hair or nails clogging the pipes.

Always add sodium hydroxide to water - never the other way around.

Always take special care and safety precautions when using sodium hydroxide.

Sodium hydroxide can be neutralized with vinegar or a citric acid solution.

In case of even slight suspicions of irritation by sodium hydroxide, seek professional help.
