There is no single system that works best for every family. AIO diapers, pocket diapers and covers differ in how they are put on, how absorbency is adjusted, and how they are washed and dried. You can choose one type or combine several systems — for example, AIO diapers for outings, pocket diapers for night-time and covers for everyday use.
AIO, or all in one, is a complete diaper with a waterproof outer layer and sewn-in absorbent panels. It goes on much like a disposable diaper: there is no need to choose or position a separate insert before every change.
In a pocket diaper, the absorbent insert is placed between the PUL outer layer and the fabric next to your baby’s skin. You can adjust the number and type of inserts to the time of day and your child’s needs.
A diaper cover is a PUL outer shell without a sewn-in absorbent layer. Place a separate insert, prefold or fitted diaper inside it. If the cover remains clean, you can replace only the wet insert and use the cover again.
Try one diaper from two or three systems and see which one best suits your daily routine. Consider not only absorbency, but also ease of use, drying time and fit. Choose the size according to your child’s current weight and the guidance on the individual product page.
For full-time cloth diapering, around 18–24 changes usually work well, although the number depends on your child’s age, washing frequency and chosen system. You do not need to buy a complete set at once — it is easier to expand it gradually based on your own experience.
