Do diaper covers restrict the baby's movements?

Reusable diapers are slightly larger than popular disposable diapers. An inquisitive mother may wonder whether these diapers are safe for her child's developing joints, whether they restrict their movements, and whether they allow for proper development. These are very important questions, and it is not surprising to be curious about this matter.
 
Do diaper covers restrict the child's movements?
Reusable diapers, such as wraps, are sewn with great care and in the right way. They are anatomical, i.e., they respond to the needs of small (but constantly growing) children's joints.

In order for diapers to be safe for developing hip joints, they must not restrict the movement of the legs and allow the legs to be moved to the sides (i.e., placing the legs in the so-called frog position). Reusable diapers allow and promote this movement.
 

A reusable diaper does not restrict the child's movements, provided that it is put on the child in the right way, i.e.:

• it fits both in length and width;
• it is fastened so that it is not too tight around the waist – you should be able to easily fit two fingers between the diaper and the child;
• the elastic bands should not stick to the child's legs (thighs), but should be tucked deep into the child's groin;
• the diaper must not be too thick – it is worth choosing an absorbent but not bulky insert.

When putting a diaper on a baby, we should be able to see that they can kick their legs freely (lying babies) or move around – crawl or walk. If we see that a lying baby's legs are held high in the diaper and are not lying freely, and a moving baby has started to have problems with this – e.g., they lose their balance more easily – this means that the diaper, e.g., a swaddle, is restricting the baby's movements.
